Do you brake for moose?

Sunday
traveling along Route 93
New Hampshire
and a grand day for a drive

No schedule to keep
no obligations calling me back

I left highway for some roads less traveled

but a mini-traffic jam
on this quiet country lane has
cars slowing and stopping

everyone looking with great interest at this fellow!
a big ol' moose having Sunday brunch
of long green reeds
in the boggy water

"his looks are laughable"
he is most "un-photographical"
no, not handsome, sleek or elegant
just big

When he had his fill of greens and water
he left for deeper woods and greater privacy

And I?
I took the road less traveled by
and that made all the difference.
