Along the shore road north

We wanted to visit Perkins Cove in Ogunquit today
but in the high season,
driving north along Route 1 is madness.
And then, there's the impossibility parking once you've arrived in town.
So to avoid all that nonsense,
we took the Shoreline Shuttle from
Short Sands Beach in York
down the coast with one stop at the Cliff House
before arriving at Perkins Cove
The bus is a bit of a toonervill trolley
it bumps and lurches along.
But no matter.
We just hung on to our seats and enjoyed the view.

Once there, we reveled in one of the very best days yet
with its clear blue sky and bright noon day sun.
We people-watched in a shady spot
Window-shopped
Watched lobstermen bring in the day's haul

We lunched at MC Perkins
at a window table with a gorgeous ocean view
Ate mussels in a garlicky tomato broth
with bread
follwed by a chopped salad
with mustard tarragon vinagrette
and good wine
A perfect day, I'd say.
